DC Probable Playing XI

Delhi Capitals, a team filled with potential galore, will aim to make a strong statement in the 2024 Indian T20 League season. Through some great acquisitions, the Capitals have built a squad that brings together experienced international stars with young emerging talents.

At the 2024 auction, Delhi Capitals made some eye-catching signings, including England's batting sensation Harry Brook and the dynamic South African wicketkeeper-batter Tristan Stubbs.

They also invested heavily in Indian talent, securing Ricky Bhui and Rasikh Dar, alongside Kumar Kushagra, who attracted a hefty bid. The addition of Australian fast bowler Jhye Richardson, West Indies' Shai Hope, along with Sumit Kumara and Swastik Chhikara, further bolsters their squad.

At FanCraze, we take a look at DC’s probable playing XI for the 2024 edition:

Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw's aggressive opening style and ability to provide fast starts have made him an invaluable asset for Delhi Capitals. Known for his explosive batting, the talented opener will be crucial in laying a strong foundation in the powerplay. His performance at the top will set the tone for Delhi’s innings.

David Warner

Having retired from ODIs and Tests, David Warner enters the tournament refreshed and in formidable T20I form. His experience and ability to anchor as well as accelerate the innings make him an indispensable part of the team. Warner's leadership and batting skills at the top will be key in stabilizing the innings or chasing down targets.

Mitchell Marsh

Mitchell Marsh's recent form in international cricket makes him a vital component of the Capitals' middle order. His all-round ability to hit the ball hard, along with his useful medium pace offers the team flexibility and depth. Marsh's form will be a critical factor in Delhi's campaign, providing balance and firepower.

Rishabh Pant (C)

Returning after missing the 2023 edition due to injury, captain Rishabh Pant will focus solely on his batting. His explosive style and capability to change the game in a few overs make him a critical middle-order batsman. Pant's return adds significant strength and depth to the batting lineup.

Tristan Stubbs

With Harry Brook's withdrawal from the tournament, Tristan Stubbs is likely to play in the middle order. Known for his explosive batting in the T20 format, with a strike rate surpassing 150, Stubbs is primed to ignite the field with his performances. His role as a finisher will be crucial, and his ability to keep wickets offers Delhi the flexibility to utilize Rishabh Pant purely as a batsman and also allows the team to strengthen their lineup by including an additional bowler or all-rounder.

Axar Patel

Axar Patel has always been a reliable bowler for Delhi, but his recent form with the bat elevates his role in the team. His ability to contribute valuable runs down the order and his economical bowling make him a key all-rounder for the Capitals.

Kumar Kushagra (WK)/ Ricky Bhui/ Abhishek Porel

Bought for a huge sum, Kushagra is likely to be the first-choice wicketkeeper, with Pant playing as a pure batter. Kushagra's domestic performances have been promising, and his role will be to contribute quick runs down the order while being sharp behind the stumps.

Ricky Bhui brings a wealth of domestic experience to the Delhi Capitals and the stumper offers a reliable batting option in the middle order. His skill set allows him to adapt to various situations and ensures that the team has a solid wicketkeeping replacement ready for any scenario.

Abhishek Porel is another promising talent within the Delhi Capitals' ranks. While lesser-known compared to some of his teammates, Porel has shown potential in domestic cricket and the ICC Men’s Under 19 World Cup with his aggressive batting style. Capable of playing both as a top-order batsman and in the middle order, Porel adds another layer of dynamism to the Capitals' batting alongside his wicket keeping.

Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep Yadav, who has been in great form in international cricket, will lead Delhi's spin attack. His wrist spin has been effective in the middle overs, providing crucial breakthroughs and maintaining pressure on the opposition. Yadav's performance will be crucial in controlling the game's pace.

Mukesh Kumar/ Ishant Sharma

Having performed well for India recently and now a capped player, Mukesh's role in exploiting the new ball will be vital for setting up the game. His ability to swing the ball and capture early wickets will lay the groundwork for Delhi's bowling strategy.

Ishant Sharma, with years of international experience, serves as a crucial backup for the Delhi Capitals' pace attack. Known for his height and ability to extract bounce from any surface, the lanky pacer can be especially lethal in conditions that favour seam movement. His experience allows him to mentor younger bowlers in the squad while being ready to step in and deliver disciplined spells.

Anrich Nortje

Anrich Nortje has been leading the DC pace attack with distinction, known for his speed and accuracy for a few years now. His role in the death overs, especially, will be crucial for containing runs and taking wickets, providing Delhi with a strong finish to the innings.

Khaleel Ahmed

Khaleel Ahmed's record in the tournament and his wicket-taking ability make him an important part of the bowling unit. His left-arm pace offers variety and his ability to strike in crucial moments will be vital for Delhi Capitals as they eye their first title.
